The Sandy Springs Police Department Wednesday announced one of its officers was involved in a two-car wreck on Ga. 400 South at Northridge Road Wednesday just before 4 p.m. while responding to a call on another car crash.

Officer Mike Stark occupied the right emergency lane while completing that call. His vehicle was struck from the back by another vehicle that had crossed over to the emergency lane.

Both drivers were taken to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The department has requested Georgia State Patrol to investigate the accident and the cars are still on site. The driver was identified as Tamika Shelia Woodson, 39, of Lithonia. The Georgia State Patrol charged her with failure to maintain her lane, driving too fast for conditions and driving under the influence of drugs.

It is estimated the impact pushed the officer’s car more than 100 feet from a standstill position, Capt. Steve Rose, a police spokesman, said in an email update Thursday. He also said he did not yet have information on a future court date for Woodson.
