With the latest information we have received from our weather advisory team in Henry County, we have made the decision to cancel all extracurricular activities for Tuesday, Feb. 11; however, we will still have a normal release schedule for school this afternoon, and all after-school enrichment programs will be in operation.
Due to the winter weather predicted for our area on early Wednesday morning, we are cancelling school for Wednesday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, Feb. 13. This cancellation also affects all after-school and extracurricular activities. Decisions on school for Friday will be made after further meetings with our weather advisory team on Thursday.
Determinations on what days will have to be made up, and when those potential days would be accommodated, will be made after the winter weather event is complete. The February Break scheduled for next week will not be affected.
Stay safe and warm and off the roads over the next few days.
Henry County Schools issued the following statement Monday:
After the latest discussions with our county emergency agency and weather professionals, it appears that the main threat of winter weather for Henry County will not arrive until well after school on Tuesday evening. With this information, Henry County Schools will be open on Tuesday. However, a plan is in place for dismissal and safe transport of students in the event that the weather changes without much warning.
Decisions on extracurricular activities for Tuesday will be made Tuesday after another meeting update with our weather advisory team.
We will continue to have more briefings with our county officials over the next 24 hours, and any possible changes to our current plans will be communicated to you immediately. Again, every indication we have been given by multiple agencies shows the threat to Henry County making it here well beyond the time everyone should be safely home from school on Tuesday.
Decisions on the subsequent days will be made closer to those specific targets when the most up-to-date information is in hand. This follows the same plan we used during the last weather event.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make the best decisions regarding safety for all of our students, faculty, and staff members.
