Half of all proceeds that day will go to the DeKalb County-based Marcus Autism Center, the largest and most comprehensive facility in the Southeast providing treatment to children with autism and other related disorders. The celebration will run from, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include food and drinks from local restaurants, such as Ship & Anchor Irish Pub, Café Sunflower, The Flying Biscuit, Cheeseburger Bobby’s and Tailfeathers Restaurant & Piano Bar.
For those looking to lower their handicap, PGA club professional Jeff Jordan will be providing free golf lessons on site (donations to Marcus Autism Center are appreciated, though). There will also be event giveaways and prizes to ensure no one goes away empty-handed. Some of the prizes include Atlanta Braves tickets, In the Spirit Spa & Boutique gift cards, movie passes, restaurant gift certificates and more.
The center is a nonprofit dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of children with autism and related disorders, treating about 5,000 children a year. Autism affects one out of every 88 children and one out of every 54 boys. It is the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S, yet receives less than 5 percent of the research funding of many less-prevalent childhood diseases. There is no medical detection or cure for autism. However, research has shown that early treatment can greatly improve learning, communication and social skills in young children with autism.
“This is a condition that doesn’t just affect the children diagnosed with this disorder, but their loved ones as well. V’s Barbershop is proud to use the opportunity to celebrate its grand opening in Sandy Springs while bringing awareness and community support to help the Marcus Autism Center,” said shop proprietor Michael Jordan.
V’s Barbershop is at 5975 Roswell Road, in the Hammond Springs Shopping Center.
