This weekend’s Vettes for Vets is what Robert L. Brown coined as “a show of shows.”

The main attraction of the event is the car show itself, boasting approximately 70 different Corvettes from around the state.

Brown, who is the organizer of the twice-a-year event, is the Georgia captain and the National Corvette Caravan, as well as being a veteran, so he has close ties to both aspects of the event.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Veteran’s Museum in McDonough and the National Corvette Museum.

The last show in December drew between 500 and 700 people, and raised roughly $1,500, Brown said.

“This time, I’m looking at probably several thousand people,” Brown said of the anticipated attendance. “It’s not because we’re not trying. We’re on it.”

Brown has been out pounding the pavement, rounding up vendors, and this year’s event promises more than 20 vendors.

“It’s double the size from last year, pretty much,” he said. “It’s just fantastic.”

Featured at the event will be the Chattahoochee Chain Gang band, comedian Willie Brown, appearance by Miss Teen USA, Pinups Calendar models, live radio broadcasts, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, food, a kids zone with inflatables and face painting and arts and crafts.

Parking and admission for spectators is free.

Brown has only lived in McDonough since 2010, but he feels called to be a part of the community.

“You hit the ground running doing something in the community, and you try to help,” he said. And he’s been amazed at the response he’s gotten. “You get that many people,” he said of businesses involved in the event, “it’s wonderful.”
