Warehouse, hospital building among top city, county building permits in 2012

Douglasville and Douglas County saw significant commercial construction in 2012, including a $6 million warehouse in Lithia Springs and new construction at WellStar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville.

Highest valued building permits outside the cities in Douglas County included:

• A 653,484-square-foot warehouse building in Riverside Business Center at 600 Riverside Parkway in Lithia Springs. Construction was valued at $6.7 million. The applicant was Atlanta-based Kajima Building and Design on the permit filed in March.

• Tanner Medical’s permit for a 6,311-square-foot building at 3340 Post Road for a convalescence facility. Construction was valued at $1,058,673 and was filed in June.

• LaGrange-based Torrance Construction Co.’s permit in October for interior renovation work on 58,134 square feet in Dorsett Shoals Elementary School. Construction was valued at $5 million.

Top permits inside Douglasville included:

• New generator building at WellStar Douglas Hospital at 8954 Hospital Drive, filed in March. Cost of construction of the 1,580-square-foot building was estimated at $2 million. Marietta-based Cork Howard Construction Co. was listed as contractor.

• Alteration of 25,596 square feet in a building at 9000 Riverside Parkway in New Manchester Business Park for warehousing for automaker Subaru. The building formerly was a JVC distribution center. Estimated value was $1.7 million on the permit filed in August. The Conlan Co. of Marietta was listed as contractor.

• A permit for shelving and racking at the same location for Subaru, estimated at $1.1 million, in September. ESSI Inc. of Dallas, Texas, was listed as contractor.

• Indoor firing range for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department at 8470 S. Cherokee Blvd., at its new adult detention center and headquarters. The permit was filed in August for new construction valued at $1,382,947. It included 8,905 square feet. Turner Construction Co. of Atlanta was the contractor.

• Alteration of space No. 2300 in Arbor Place Mall at 6700 Douglas Blvd. Construction was estimated at $1 million for the 27,000-square-foot space whihc would later be used by clothing retailer H&M.
