The Fulton County Department of Water Resources began work Monday on the third phase of the Alpharetta Water Transmission Main project.

From 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday, crews installed 200 linear feet of pipe, between Academy Street and Milton Avenue, crossing Hwy. 9.  It is expected that this segment will be completed within three weeks. There will be no interruption of water service and minimal traffic impact is expected, according to Fulton County Water Resources.

The Transmission Main project involves the installation of about seven miles of water mains and ancillaries in the cities of Alpharetta and Johns Creek to improve the water system supply and pressure in north Fulton County.

According to the county, this will improve operations in the northwestern portion of Fulton County.

Phase III of the project involves the installation of about 2,700 linear feet of 30-inch ductile pipe.  The pipe will be installed in four segments. Segment 1 is at the Hwy. 9 crossing. Segment 2 will be the installation of about 900 linear feet along Academy Street scheduled to start in the fall.

Segment 3 is the installation of about 800 linear feet, along a section of Milton Avenue and Old Canton Street also scheduled to start in fall 2014. Segment 4 will be the installation of about 800 linear feet along Canton Street, scheduled for summer 2015.
