The orchestra’s concert Feb. 16 is called “Baroque and Classical Favorites!” and will feature students from Roswell-based North Atlanta Talent Education.
Founded in 2001, North Atlanta Talent Education is a Suzuki Method program that offers lessons in violin, viola, cello and piano. Each student receives instruction in an individual and group setting.
Abby Carpenter, 9, of Roswell said she is excited to play with the orchestra and her favorite part of the performance is the first movement of the Vivaldi Concerto in A minor.
“I like how fast the bows are,” she said.
Abby has been playing violin since she was 4 years old, and she said maybe someday she’ll play with an orchestra like the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra on a regular basis.
“I like the violin because I like how you can learn new songs and keep going,” she said.
Abby’s North Atlanta Talent Education violin teacher Trishia Anderson has six students playing in the concert, and she said the music they will be performing is already something they learn in their lessons. This will be a new experience for some of the students, and she said they are excited about the opportunity.
“We have never performed it in this big of a venue with a professional orchestra so we’re excited about that,” she said.
The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra has considered inviting young musicians to play with them for a while, and released a statement saying they are delighted to give the children time on the stage.
“The night features repertoire from the baroque and classical periods of music written by composers some who, in their youth, proved to be musical masters,” they said. “How fitting that we can feature the performance of those who just might aspire to be the same.”
Tickets are $30 for adults, $23.50 for seniors and $16.50 for students. The performance will be at the theater at Johns Creek High School.
