There are a total of 32 children in the choir ranging from sixth to 12th grade.
Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. the youth will perform pieces solo, in duets and in the ensemble, from several notable musicals, including “Wicked,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Cabaret,” “Annie Get Your Gun” and “Big River,” as well as some popular pieces.
The singers have choreographed dances to go along with the music and have been rehearsing for the show since the beginning of school, according to Kathy Fletcher, the choir’s director.
“For me, it’s a chance for the kids to showcase their individual talent,” she said. “It’s been a good bonding experience for the kids.”
Fletcher said the live auction will happen right before the night’s final number. Baskets being auctioned off include spa, entertainment, sports, fitness, children’s and music packages.
The director said the choir is hoping to raise $5,000 from the fundraiser between the auction and asking for a $5 donation at the door.
In the past, the choir has traveled to Niagara Falls, Hawaii and Washington.
Katie Cheshire, children’s and youth music assistant, said the trips were beneficial for choir members and those for whom they perform.
“Not only do the members of Doxology have a blast and become closer as a group on these trips, but they also perform and worship with other churches, retirement homes, homeless shelters and more,” she said.
Fletcher said the singers perform secular and sacred tunes on the tours.
Members of the choir come from all over the area and attend schools including Pace Academy, Westminster Schools, Lovett School and Riverwood International Charter School.
“It’s an honor for me to work with these kids,” Fletcher said. “Not only are they kind to each other and share the common love of music, they’re fun.”
