Union City Firefighters will once again stand in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) “Fill the Boot” campaign. Firefighters will be collecting contributions at the Union City Wal-Mart located at 4735 Jonesboro Rd. on June 19, 20, and 21. The community’s support will be appreciated and needed to make the event a huge success.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has 120 local offices across the country, sponsors 200 medical clinics and supports more than 250 research projects around the world.
Throughout the years, local fire departments have stood together to further MDA’s work by supporting the thriving campaign and doing their part in advocating for the organization’s cause. By contributing and getting involved in the Fill the Boot campaign, the community will make an important difference in the lives of fellow citizens.
“We just want to keep our tradition of helping, and the kids and parents who suffer from muscular dystrophy would greatly benefit from the support,” Assistant Fire Chief Joe Maddox said in a statement. “We do this every year, and we hope to continue the program for years to come.”
