District 4 U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, who represents most of DeKalb County, and District 5 U.S. Rep. John Lewis, who represents the Druid Hills and North Druid Hills areas, have announced support for President Barack Obama's health care legislation which was to go for a vote this weekend.

Will either congressman's vote on the bill convince you to support candidates from either party challenging Johnson and Lewis this year? Or do their votes further strengthen your support of their work?

John Lewis has betrayed his constituents by voting for the Heath Care Reform Bill which anyone who actually bothered reading the bill and studying the state of health care in Canada, England, Cuba and the welfare states of Europe knows will only lead to poorer care, rationing of care and higher taxes. He prides himself on his involvement in the Civil Rights movement, but then turns around and consistently votes to enslave the American people to the federal government. Instead of representing his constituents, he does whatever the Democrat leadership tells him to do. But, hey, as a member of Congress, he is exempt.

To me, one of the most amazing things in the recent (and fierce) discussion about the now passed "health care bill" was the frequency with which the "party of no" claimed to speak for "the American people," although some did reduce such rhetoric to just that they spoke for the majority. Apparently, these folks chose to ignore the fact that President Obama was elected overwhelmingly to office and that both Houses of the U.S. Congress switched parties as well, based upon a promise to "change things," including our health care system! So who speaks for the majority? Clearly, the Democrats in the U.S. Congress do and this of course includes both Mr. Lewis and Mr. Johnson, who are assured of being re-elected! At least, they both have my support, even if I can cast my ballot for just one of them! "Right on!" I say, for their votes (which come as no surprise) simply encourage me! My only regret about the actions in the Congress is that the bill does not include "the public option," but we settle for what we can get ... and work for more!
