The Buckhead Heritage Society last week announced the hiring of its new executive director, Erica Danylchak. She replaced Christine McCauley.

The organization strives to sustain the quality of life in Buckhead by promoting, preserving and protecting its historic resources.

Over the past five years, Ms. Danylchak has worked at the Kenan Research Center at the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead in several roles, including research manager, project cataloger and, most recently, as special projects associate at the Cherokee Garden Library. She has also worked for Easements Atlanta Inc. and has served as a research fellow for the Georgia Historic Landscape Initiative.

In 2009, she and her colleagues from Georgia State University received a Preservation Achievement Award from the Historic Preservation Division for their work in preparing the National Register nomination for the Collier Heights neighborhood in Atlanta. In addition, Danylchak received the Jenny D. Thurston Memorial Award from the Atlanta Urban Design Commission in 2009 for her contributions to historic preservation in Atlanta.

“Erica is well respected in Atlanta for her work in the field of historic preservation. Her positions at the Atlanta History Center and the Cherokee Garden Library have prepared her well to take Buckhead Heritage into the next decade,” said society President and board chair Wright Mitchell. “We are very fortunate to have Erica as our new executive director and our board is very excited to begin working with her to make Buckhead a better place to live.”

Ms. Danylchak earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Boston University in 2001 and a master’s degree in heritage preservation from Georgia State University in 2008.
