VHA Georgia — an organization dedicated to encouraging hospitals to deliver superior performance — recently recognized DeKalb Medical at North Decatur with two leadership awards for improvements in operations. A VHA Operational Excellence award went to the Emergency Room for initiating processes that have decreased wait time, improved patient satisfaction and generated $11.5 million in new revenue through increased efficiency. ER waits have dropped to an average of only 30 minutes with 95 percent of surveyed patients expressing satisfaction with service promptness. Innovations in the prevention of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers also earned DeKalb Medical at North Decatur a Clinical Excellence award from VHA Georgia.

Chamblee resident Meg Needle, an associate with architectural firm Lord, Aeck & Sargent, is among the first group of 127 individuals in North America who have earned designation as an accredited Green Roof Professional (GRP) from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC). GRP accreditation verifies that an individual has attained the level of interdisciplinary knowledge of best practices associated with the successful design, installation and maintenance of green roof systems.
