Chef Geir Kilen of Palm Beach Restaurant has moved his Caribbean-inspired fare to Eagle’s Landing Parkway in Stockbridge after two and a half years on Hwy. 20 in McDonough.

“This area is already established and more suited for the type of cuisine that I do,” said Kilen.

He said he originally chose McDonough because of the promise of future growth.

“It was supposed to be a growing area but the growth stopped…all that showed up was JC Penney and Kohl’s,” said Kilen.

Formerly a restaurant, the new location has more space, said Kilen, which allows him to be more creative.

He has added a sand bar filled with actual sand, sea shells and other beach-oriented items, and plans to provide hammock seating. The new location also has a covered patio.

“It’s not as hot in the summer time, it’s a shaded area,” said Kilen.

Favorites like the key lime cake and bimini callaloo soup are staying, but Kilen has also added swordfish to the menu.

He said he still plans to offer gourmet cooking classes, but hasn’t quite figured out how, as they were held on Mondays when the restaurant was closed. He is now open seven days a week.

Kilen said the move has made him more accessible to loyal patrons, most of whom live in Stockbridge.

“I couldn’t ask for anything better on the southside of town,” said Kilen. “If it wasn’t here, then the next best place in Atlanta would be midtown or Atlantic Station.”
