“This year, we are asking that organizations partner with us to fund the concert series,” Ms. Davis said. “This is a great opportunity for a non-profit group because it will be tax deductible.”

She added, “These concerts are always very poplar and are a great deal of fun for us at the DDA, the performers and those who attend the concerts as well.”

Ms. Davis added that there will be one concert each month in con-junction with the car shows.

“These concerts will feature one concert night each month along with the car show, and we have an out-standing lineup this year, including the famous Tams!,” she said.

“Last year’s concerts and car shows drew more than 4,500 folks per night,” said Liz Hood, director of the Downtown Development Authority. “That’s more than 31,000 people over a 7-month period.”

She also said, “The concert series will feature one concert night per month along with the car show and we have an outstanding lineup including the famous Tams.”

Mrs. Hood added, “Currently we are working with Keep Bartow Beautiful to see if they will be a sponsor this year.” She said, “We would like to have a “green area” at each concert to give those who attend ideas on how to be more environmentally aware at home and at work.”

She added, “Georgia Power Company/Plant Bowen is a return-ing sponsor and we are currently meeting with past sponsors and businesses which have expressed interest in coming on board this year.”

Mrs. Hood also said that an eighth car cruise will take place on Saturday, March 7 from 2 to 6 p.m. She said, “The earlier time for this cruise is due to the fact that we won’t know if it will be chilly ort unseasonably warm in early March. All other cruises, the ones scheduled from April though October will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

She added that the car cruises were renamed last summer in mem-ory of longtime car cruise supporter, the late Tom Clayton. The new name for this event is the Tom Clayton Memorial Car Cruise in his memory.

? The Etowah Valley Historical Society is seeking volunteers to help with its various projects that involve preserving and protecting the his-toric properties in Bartow County.

? If you are interested in helping preserve the many historic treasures in Bartow County, you are invited to get involved with the EVHS. Nu-merous properties have already saved for future generations to enjoy, but some, such as the historic Stilesboro Academy need your help.

? The Stilesboro, near Euharlee, was a boys' school prior to the Civil War. During the Civil War, it was occupied by Union Troops. General William T. Sherman was said to have commented that the building “is excellent architecture of fine proportions.” There is also a pre-civil war hand-painted motto in Latin on one of the walls. It means “God and Country” and is the same as that of West Point, from which Sherman graduated. He could have burned the academy but chose to let it remain.

Another project of the EVHS is preserving the numerous historic cemeteries that are located in Bartow County .One in particular is the Friendship Cemetery, located on Highway 29e near River Road. This was at the site of the Friendship Presbyterian Church.

The EVHS also seeks volunteers to help maintain the EVHS office and library in the 1903 gold-domed courthouse in downtown Cartersville. The office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and has materials that are available to use in doing genealogical research.

If you are not already a member of the EVHS, you are invited to join. Individual memberships start at $15. For information, you may call Mina Harper at (770)6060-8862.
