The PGA Tour on Wednesday named Dunwoody resident Virginia Lane as its 2009 Volunteer of the Year for her service to The Tour Championship tournament at East Lake Golf Course in DeKalb County.
Ms. Lane, who has volunteered for nine Tour Championships dating to 1998, is currently the vice chairman of Volunteer Services at The Tour Championship, overseeing five different committees: Office Administration; Uniform Distribution; Volunteer Tent; Volunteer Food and Beverage; and Photography. One of her primary responsibilities is processing and corresponding with more than 1,300 volunteers that work The Tour Championship.
Ms. Lane also has worked more than 160 days at The Tour Championship tournament office each of the last few years on a volunteer basis. To top it off, during advance week, she cooks a three-course meal every day for staff, volunteers and other workers at East Lake Golf Club.
Tim Finchem, PGA Tour commissioner, said, “Like many of the thousands of volunteers who assist the Tour throughout the year, Virginia has become part of the fabric of The Tour Championship. Everyone who comes in contact with her comes away with an appreciation for her dedication and spirit. She is an integral part of the event’s success in helping the East Lake and Atlanta community.”
Todd Rhinehart, The Tour Championship executive director, said, “Virginia is a special, one-of-a-kind volunteer who has assisted our tournament in countless ways.
"I am proud of Virginia being named PGA Tour Volunteer of the Year, and am equally proud of her receiving this award on behalf of all The Tour Championship volunteers who share her commitment to the Tour’s charitable mission”
