Hapeville is gearing up to offer its residents and visitors a variety of arts and entertainment events associated with the city’s Happy Days Festival and its Tour de 29 events.

This will mark the 118th year of Hapeville hosting its Happy Days Festival. This event marks the city’s charter date of Sept. 16, 1891.

Over a two-day span, music and more will be offered. All events are free and open to the public and will be held at the Jess Lucas Y-Teen Park, 680 South Central Ave.

On Sept. 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. there will be a concert featuring local home-grown talent Jimmy Lovern and Darwin Conort. Both are graduates of the former Hapeville High school.

Allie O’Brien, main street manager, said the concerts are always sure to bring out those in town for reunion activities as well as Hapeville High alumni.

On Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be several activities and vendors for all ages. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Andy Lee Stephens Trio will perform. This group performed at the U.S. Naval base in Guantanamo Bay on July 4.

There will also be a Guitar Hero area for teenagers, something Ms. O’Brien said was new this year to draw in more visitors in the teen age group. There will also be inflatables, great food, a farm stand near the Depot Museum, jewelry, arts and crafts and more.

One of the city’s first Tour de 29 offerings will include a Lunchtime Sidewalk Concert Series, which will help to highlight downtown lunch spots. Today, Sept. 23 and Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. musicians will stroll along the 500 and 600 blocks of North and South Central Avenues.

Visitors can enjoy lunch at their favorite downtown restaurant and enjoy the live music coming from outside; many places have outside eating to help in capturing the entertainment.

Events such as the Happy Days Festival and Tour de 29 help to draw more attention on Hapeville, which Ms. O’Brien said is something the city looks forward to each year.

“We look forward to bringing people in the city,” said Ms. O’Brien. “We’ve done park cleanups, have new city signage at all of our gateways, and a lot of new landscape enhancements around the city. So we’re excited to bring people in for festivals to really show off the city.”
