After holding its annual Preservation Gala at Mason Murer Art Gallery in 2009, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation returns the event to its roots this year at a historic Buckhead home.
The 26th annual event will be held Friday at the Goodrum House on West Paces Ferry Road, which is the recently former home of the Southern Center for International Studies.
“This will be a unique opportunity for people to see the interior of this home, which is a work in progress,” said event chair Tamara Bazzle.
Built in 1929 by Philip Trammel Shutze for the widow Mary Goodrum, the home became known as the Peacock House in the 1950s and ’60s because of the new owner’s flock of peacocks roaming the grounds.
The house was the home of the Southern Center for International Studies until last fall, when it was purchased by the Watson-Brown Foundation.
With ornate details, the home has grand chandeliers, Asian-inspired murals, a fountain and gazebo.
“We’re so excited the Watson-Brown Foundation purchased this home,” Ms. Bazzle said. “It will not only be saved and preserved, but restored so it will be useable.”
She said the event helps showcase the mission of the organization, which is to help support the preservation and restoration of historic places like the Goodrum House.
“We hope to have a great show of supporters,” Ms. Bazzle said.
Anne Farrisee, the organization’s senior director of development, said the annual event, which has been held in years past at places like the Biltmore Hotel ballrooms in Midtown and the State Capitol downtown, has evolved over the years.
“The focus will be for people to have a good time,” she said.
Keeping in the peacock theme of the home, the Parties to Die For-designed event is called “A Fine Feathered Fête.” Cocktails will be served on the large outdoor patio and live entertainment will provide a chance for dancing.
“It’s a chance for people to connect with friends old and new,” said Ms. Bazzle.
