DUNWOODY GRADUATE

CHRIS SINGLETON:

Former Dunwoody basketball star Chris Singleton was able to experience some of “March Madness” this season with Florida State University, where he starts at the small forward position.

The Seminoles, however, lost their first round matchup 61-59 in overtime to Wisconsin March 20 in Boise, Idaho, despite Singleton’s 12 points.

“It was intense,” Singleton said about playing in this year’s NCAA Tournament first round

“I wanted to have my best showing in the national spotlight. I wasn’t nervous because in my mind it was just another game.

“I think I played all right but luckily we have a pretty good nucleus of guys so I’m hoping that we will be able to go back in the next couple of years.”

CROSS KEYS GRADUATE

COREY BUTLER:

University of Georgia senior Corey Butler, a Decatur native and 2005 Cross Keys graduate, was a part of the Bulldogs team that won the Southeastern Conference championship and made it to the NCAA tournament in 2008.

“No one expected us to even be in the tournament, so to be there was an unbelievable experience,” Butler said of the game in Washington, D.C.

“We all were upset-minded coming into the game [Georgia was the 14th seed playing No. 3 seed Xavier University].

“Even though we didn’t win, I am very grateful for the opportunity I had at [UGA]. Not very many people get the chance to play in the [NCAA] tournament and win an [SEC] championship, and I got to do both.”

REDAN GRADUATE TRAE GOLDSTON:

Decatur native Trae Goldston has had his fair share of success while playing basketball for the Georgia State University Panthers.

The former Redan Raider is GSU’s second leading scorer, averaging close to 11 points per game.

He also hit game-winning shots against Old Dominion and UNC-Wilmington.

“I want the ball in those big time situations; it’s really my favorite moment of a game,” Goldston said. “There is nothing better than making a shot to win a game for your team.”

The junior guard scored 24 points against Florida State this season and had back-to-back 40 point games as well during the 2008-2009 season.

“I love the game of basketball, and I’m always going to do what I can to help my team win,” Goldston said.
