Philyaw, Sims Jr. will have Dec. 1 runoff

Unofficial results are in for Dallas and Hiram City Council seats and there will be a runoff for the Hiram Post 3 seat.

Billy Sims Jr. received 57 votes in the race, while Teresa R. Laird Philyaw’s 55 and Stephen S. Bray’s 19.

Despite recieving two more votes than Philyaw, Sims Jr. failed to receive a majority percentage, which will lead to a runoff Dec. 1.

In the Post 5 race, Earlene Graham gathered 77 votes defeating challenger Linda E. Meg Hunt-Williams. Ms. Williams had 55 votes.

In the Dallas City Council race for Ward 1 incumbent Kelly D. Carter easily defended his seat from challenger Terry D. Johnson 159 to 76.

The votes will be reviewed Wednesday and certified later in the week.
