City Special Events Coordinator Angela Thompson said last year they showed one movie as part of the B98.5 summer move series “B at the Movies,” and — after that success and seeing neighboring cities such as Johns Creek with summer movie programs — decided to move forward with a three-movie series for summer 2012.
“From looking at what we did last year, the movie looked like it was a big hit so I decided to embrace that,” she said.
The movie series is presented by Southern Outdoor Cinema and sponsored by Northside Hospital Forsyth and will have one movie each month this summer.
“We have great movies planned,” Thompson said.
On July 7, the series will feature “The Three Stooges” and the summer series will wrap up with a third movie Aug. 4. Thompson said discussions are still being held about which movie will be shown in August, but she’s confident it will be a hit.
Each night of the series the festivities will start at 7:30 p.m. on the side lawn at Northwestern, with the movie starting at dark around 8:45 or 9 p.m. The movies will be shown in high definition on a two-story inflatable movie screen provided by Southern Outdoor Cinema.
In the time before the movie starts, movie-goers can take part of the festival atmosphere, Thompson said, including face painting, an inflatable moonwalk, children’s activities and concessions.
Thompson said the goal of these events is simply to provide fun, free nights out throughout the summer for local families to enjoy.
“We want to provide a fun community event,” she said. “That’s exactly our goal.”
All families need to bring is lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray and maybe a light picnic dinner.
