“This is our 34th year so everything is kind of in place,” said the nature center’s development director DeAnn Fordham. “It’s kind of an Atlanta tradition now for people getting ready for the Peachtree Road Race. It’s a good prep race for that.”
The 10k will start at 7:30 a.m. and will start on Willeo Road about a quarter of a mile south of the nature center’s entrance.
“It’s a good flat course by the river. It’s scenic and of course all the funds go to benefit the nature center.”
Registration is $28 or $35 on race day. Runners can register online at www.chattnaturecenter.org or at any Big Peach Running Company store.
Brett Luna, manager at the Big Peach Running Company in Marietta, said registration is moving along at a steady pace.
“I think this last weekend we had about 30 or 40 people come in and register,” he said.
There will also be a kid’s one mile fun run that will start at 7 a.m. at the finish line in front of the nature center. Registration for the fun run is $15.
All participants of the race will receive a t-shirt and gift bag from the Plum District, a website providing daily offers by moms and for moms.
Lynn McIntyre, the center’s senior director of community relations, said runners have a lot of options June 16 but the Possum Trot is the local race with history behind it.
“There are a lot of races, but this is the oldest 10k going on that day,” she said.
The Chattahoochee Nature Center is located at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell.
