Thursday, Buckhead Christian Ministry will compete in Twive and Receive (www.TwiveAndReceive.org), a massive one-day Twitter-based fundraising contest to support nonprofits in different cities across theU.S.As the only charity representing the city ofAtlanta, the ministry hopes to garner citywide support and earn forAtlantathe unofficial title ofMostGenerousCity(#ATLcaresmost).
The fundraising competition runs for 24 hours Thursday, beginning at 3 a.m. The three charities that raise the most money will get a share of the $30,000 prize money, in addition to the sum of all individual donations.
The ministry is a local nonprofit that helps families, primarily the working poor, to meet their basic needs — food, clothing and shelter — during times of crisis. It also provides money management and life-skills education to prevent future financial problems for such families and help them achieve self-sufficiency.
The ministry serves more than 8,500 people of all faiths annually. They are people you encounter on a daily basis — waitresses, clerks, janitors and health care assistants — and reside in 15 zip codes throughout metroAtlanta. It receives the majority of its funding from individuals and private foundations.
