The Swingin’ Medallions will make its third apperarance at Concerts by the Springs in a performance rescheduled from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day due to rain last month.

This Sunday the Greenville, S.C.-based party band will play at the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green.

It is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a lineup including original member Jimmy Perkins.

“I decided to move on home,” Perkins said. “It’s wonderful to be back.”

The former Roswell and Alpharetta resident, who in July rejoined the band he helped form in 1962, sings and plays bass and saxophone. He also plays guru to Shawn McElrath, Shane McElrath and Jake Bartley, who replaced their dads — and Perkins’ former bandmates — John McElrath and Hack Bartley.

They play quite a number of hits, like those of 1960s icons James Brown, the Temptations and Otis Redding, plus a handful of their own recordings — including their 1966 smash, “Double Shot (Of My Baby’s Love).”

“That song will never die,” Perkins said about the million-seller. “It’s the sound of having a good time.”

The concert will include food sold by Slopes BBQ, Honeysuckle Gelato and Calyroad Creamery and wine samples from Barefoot Wine.
