Doors will open in late October or early November, according to Buckhead resident Tony Conway, CEO and founder of A Legendary Event, a northwest Atlanta-based catering and special events company. Conway is transforming the mansion into 3109 Piedmont Estate and Gardens.
It was Anthony’s Fine Dining for about 40 years and was home to the private Yacht and Polo Club from mid 2011 to January 2012.
“As you pull into 3109, we will have changed the [old] gates to big beautiful iron gates with a graveled driveway, giving you that sound of entering an estate in Buckhead,” Conway said. “We’re going to keep the integrity of that home that was built in 1790 yet give it some updates and an eclectic interesting twist.”
The gates are not the only part of the estate Conway’s changing with the $500,000 makeover. He said there are “lots of little surprises” around every corner and the entire second floor will be a residential setting where “You can sit down, have a cocktail and get away from the party,” he said.
The ballroom is being redone, the first floor will have brand-new hardwood floors and it will be freshly painted. Conway plans for a new roof, shutters chandeliers and renovated bathrooms.
A stone wall will go in the courtyard “to help with the noise level of the neighborhood,” which also will “give for a great back-drop for ceremonies or cocktail parties,” Conway said.
Ed Castro Landscape is set to work on the “lush” garden property, Conway said, because Castro understands Conway’s vision, the use of Georgia plants and flowers and “using what’s already there because there is really great structure there in the landscaping.”
Other highlights include two wine cellars. One will be a groom’s holding room or a spot for rehearsal or private dinner and the other will most likely turn into a “little martini bar,” Conway said.
Additionally, the estate’s large courtyard will lead into a “secret garden,” where Conway said will be the ideal place to take photos of the bride and groom.
So far, four holiday parties and six weddings are booked.
Magnolia Events and Planning owner Christina Zubowitz said this is one of Conway’s “legendary moves.”
“We need this desperately. We were really missing another solid social event venue, and he is going to create a premiere event facility,” Zubowitz said. “It really is a visionary move and he is going to deliver like he always does.”
