Melanie Turner Interiors, a Buckhead-based interior design firm, has once again proved the quality of its work, receiving the title of Southeastern Designer of the Year in the residential category from the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center in Buckhead and Veranda magazine.
This is the second time in four years that the design firm has won the award, which is given out to interior designers, interior design firms and architects from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Once submitted, entries are judged by a panel of industry and educational professionals, as well as Veranda editors.
“It was very exciting to win both times, but the second time around was different due to the high caliber of the other design firms that were also nominated. It was especially humbling to win in 2012 because the other nominees are all such talented designers,” said owner Melanie Turner, a Buckhead resident.
Melanie Turner Interiors was awarded the title this year for a whole-home interior design in Buckhead. Designed by McAlpine Tankersley Architecture of Montgomery, Ala., and built by Benecki Homes of Atlanta, the high-end residency reflects simplicity and understated glamour.
“Washed wood floors, paneled library walls and areas where the ceiling is dropped give the home warmth, even though it is an elegant space,” said Turner.
The honor of being named Southeast Designer of the Year is added to a long list of achievements for the design firm. In addition to winning this same title in 2009, it has also earned various awards from the American Society of Interior Designers, including the 2012 ASID Design Excellence Award in showhouse, for a residence of less than 3,500 square feet and product/custom design. The firm has won many ASID Design Excellence awards in many different categories in years past as well.
The firm is also involved with charities in the Atlanta area, and regularly participates in showhouse fundraisers, such as the Atlanta Symphony Showhouse, which raises money for children’s education in music. For the past two years the firm as agreed to design a specific section of the house for free, designing the sun porch in 2010, the dining room in 2011 and the front entry in 2012.
“This is a wonderful annual fundraiser and I love that it brings together Atlanta’s decorative arts community,” said Turner.
In addition to the Atlanta Symphony, Melanie Turner Interiors has also worked with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in years past.
The company is already looking to the future to expand and further their already increasing reach.
“We will continue to grow the firm and expand our clientele, and we are even working on new furniture and lighting lines,” Turner said.
