The public safety headquarters for the Cartersville Police Department and the Cartersville Fire Department are on schedule for a November completion date.

“I’ve just been amazed at the progress they’ve made from week to week,” said Police Chief Thomas Culpepper.

Culpepper and Fire Chief Scott Carter led a tour of the site where the headquarters are being built.

Located on Cassville Road, the headquarters will house a 12-man fire fighter crew and the headquarters for both departments in a LEED Silver certified two-story building covering 51,000 square-feet.

Carter said the building incorporates the Atco neighborhood where it is being built into the design.

“This station is going to serve the city well beyond our times,” Carter said.

According to project director Dave Buser, with Potts Construction the only “hiccup” so far has come by way of necessary security measures that affected the building’s initial design.

The public safety headquarters building has been in the works for some two years said and its construction comes about from good planning on the part of Culpepper and Carter said architect for the project Jim Croft, with Croft and Associates.

“One of the keys in designing this is having a police chief and a fire chief who knew what they wanted and knew what they were looking for,” Croft said.
