Clayton County voters can expect to face few problems or delays voting in today’s general primary and they have their fellow voters who took advantage of early, advance or absentee voting to thank for it.

There have been no reported major problems at any Clayton polling location this morning.

In addition, poll managers at two locations, Mt. Zion Primary School, 2920 Mt. Zion Road in Jonesboro and Morrow City Hall, 1500 Morrow Road in Morrow, described voting so far today as slow but steady.

Billy Williams, poll manager at Mt. Zion Primary who is in his 20th year as a Clayton County voting precinct official, said there were 10 voters in line waiting when his polling location opened at 7 a.m. and by 8:30, they had had about 45 to vote.

Cynthia Mears, poll manager at the Morrow City Hall precinct, said there were six voters in line at 7 a.m. and, by 9:15, about 60 had voted.

“You can sure see the effect today of the early, advanced and absentee voting on the turnout thus far,” Williams said.

“Early, advanced and absentee voting offers voters a great convenience,” he said.

“Opportunities to vote like that have given Clayton voters plenty of opportunities to vote when they want to instead of just one day, today, to vote, and at a particular precinct location,” he said.

Voter Bobby Smith, who was in and out of the Mt. Zion Primary School voting precinct in about 10 minutes, called his voting experience today as “fantastic.”

“To me, just to be able to vote in a free country for the leaders you have the freedom to vote for is something we should all be thankful for,” he said.

“However, voting today here at Mt. Zion Primary was smooth and the voting officials were very professional and easy to work with,” Williams added.

Smith said he hopes the voting experience at Mt. Zion Primary “means it has been a good start to a good day for me.”

Mears said things have gone smoothly at the Morrow City Hall precinct, “but we would always like to see more voters.”

“Morrow City Hall is an advanced voting precinct,” she said.

“A lot of people who would have come here to vote today took advantage of early, advanced and absentee voting, so we haven’t had any long lines and I don’t expect any,” she added.

Mears said Morrow has more than 1,700 registered voters.

“Whether they are voting today or voted by early, advanced or absentee ballot, I would like to see every registered voter to vote,’ Mears said.
