As has been the case throughout election day, Clayton County voter turnout has been slow but steady as the polls enter their final hour before closing at 7 p.m.

According to Kamardi Carter, a Clayton County senior election official, employees of the Clayton County Elections and Registration Office have not received any calls complaining of long lines prior to the polls closing.

“Primarily, the calls we are receiving now, and for much of the day, have been from voters wanting to know what precinct they must go to in order to cast their ballot,” he said.

“We have had no calls complaining of any significant problems at any of the polling precincts.”

Many precincts saw a slight increase in voters coming in on their lunch hour and poll managers believe they will see something of an increase between 5 and 7 p.m. as voters cast ballots before going home.

Carter, like many precinct managers, credits the more than 8,100 residents taking advantage of opportunities like absentee ballots and early voting this year, as primary reasons voting at the polling locations has been slow but steady throughout the day.

Carter reminds voters if they are in line to vote at 7 p.m. when the polls close, they will be allowed to vote.
