Unofficial numbers are in from the 2012 Primary Election and while most races lacked compelling story lines, all eyes were on the race for county commissioner and the proposed Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST).

Voter turnout was 32.6 percent of the county's registered voters and in a landslide they voted "no" to T-SPLOST.

According to numbers, which have not been certified by the Secretary of State's office, about 72 percent of voters were against the tax, which would purportedly fund transportation projects in the Northwest region.

In the key race for Bartow County commissioner, Steve Taylor took 37 percent of the votes with Mike Bearden following with nearly 23 percent. The two will face off in a run off Aug. 21.

In other races, Bartow County School Board District 5 incumbent Anna Sullivan beat out challenger Greg Bowen with 58 percent of the vote.

For tax commissioner, Steve Stewart took the to spot with 47 percent of the votes.

Sheriff Clark Millsap won handily with 63 percent of the votes.

For State Senate Seat 52, Chuck Hufstetler held off David Doss with nearly 52 percent of the votes. The lone Bartow County resident in the race, Hayden Collins tallied nearly 22 percent of the votes.

For State Representative District 16, Trey Kelley beat out Jennifer Hulsey with nearly 56 percent of the vote.

Melba Scoggins edged incumbent Clerk of Superior Court Gary Bell garnering 50 percent of the votes in a tight race. Bell tallied about 49 percent.

A referendum on the ballot for Sunday alcohol sales in the county has a yes with about 57 percent of the votes.
