“We have a new Beach Boys medley that’s going to be our new show stopper,” said bassist Mike Hale.
Lina Kawar, one of the act’s vocalists, said they will try to meet the standards set by Brian Wilson and Mike Love.
“They’re very hard harmonies, but we’re going to do it,” she said.
Fellow vocalist William Lee said the medley will have a special significance.
“We will be debuting it in Sandy Springs,” he said.
The city became one of the act’s new favorite places to play after concluding the nonprofit Heritage Sandy Springs’ Concerts by the Springs series in 2010.
“There was so much energy and dancing. Then they called us back to another half-hour show. Everyone was there to have a good time and I’m glad we were a part of that fun,” Kawar said. “We do love the venue. We love performing in Sandy Springs. GLOW and the Sandy Springs concert are like peas in a pod. The audience is tons of fun and super-nice.”
Drummer Michael Ahmann agreed.
“I think it was great because we had audience members of all ages,” he said.
All ages can relate to the band’s wide range of music from the 1950s to the 2000s, although the 1980s have a special place in Hale’s heart.
“We’re reinventing our ’80s mix,” he said about updating a 2010 crowd favorite. “Everyone loves the ’80s.”
Vocalists include Tim Tice, whom Ahmann said is a reality television star.
“Tim won ‘Nashville Star,’ the singing contest,” Ahmann said. “He walked away with $50,000.”
Little-known facts about the band include the history of another musician.
“Dave Shaver, the keyboard player, has a gold record for his work in the band Starbuck,” Ahmann said about a band charting in 1976 with “Moonlight Feels Right.”
However, one piece of information is no secret, Lee said.
“The GLOW Band is all about fun,” he said.
Other band members include violinist, guitarist and musical director Robert Taylor and vocalists Jesse Mangione and Brittany Shewbridge.
Nonprofit Special Events Director Christy Nickles said dining favorites also will return to the concessions area.
“The food trucks will be Hail Caesar and Honeysuckle Gelato,” she said. “Barefoot Wines will do a free sampling again.”
