The party, co-chaired by Reavis and Ginny Evans, both Buckhead residents, started last year in an effort to raise money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
“It is a summer sendoff party,” Reavis said. “The idea of this event was to target young families with pre-school-aged children to really get them engaged in Children’s Healthcare from a philanthropic perspective, not just when you need to go to the emergency room.”
“We are excited these younger families are engaged in giving back to Children’s,” said Kate Myers, foundation program coordinator at Children’s. “This year, our funds will be going to the Sibley Heart Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.”
Myers said the center performed 309 closed heart surgeries and 540 open-heart surgeries in 2011.
“This support will help the Sibley Heart Center to continue to be one of the top pediatric cardiology and heart surgery programs in the nation,” Myers said. “No one can predict when a child will have a heart problem. When they do, the pediatric-trained experts at [the] center use the latest techniques and treatments to help ensure kids will be better today and healthier tomorrow.”
Myers, a Buckhead resident, said last year’s inaugural Sizzle generated $37,000 for the pediatric hospital system.
“I would love for this fundraiser to continue to grow throughout the years,” Myers said.
Reavis said about 225 tickets were sold as of last week and she expects 350 people to attend.
“We’ll raise $75,000 but we’ll net $50,000,” she said.
The Sizzle is not a seated dinner, Reavis said, but it will have food with a “Southern flair” from Endive Atlanta Fine Catering.
According to Reavis, there will be a live band, a silent auction, a photo booth and special surprise prize offerings.
Reavis said the party is “a more casual and younger alternative” to the Hope and Will Ball, which is $1,000 a couple. She said the Sizzle aims to engage the “next demographic” or the people that are not in “the position to drop 1,000 bucks on every ball.”
Additionally, she said Summerour Studio has a “fun vibe” with a “great view of downtown” and fits in well with the event’s target demographic.
