Sonya and Mike Veazey's home will be featured on the Dunwoody Home Tour 2012, which will be held in October by the Dunwoody Woman's Club.
This year, there are two homes on the tour sure to ignite the interior designer in many. The Veazey home, located in Dunwoody, was the site of a movie last fall starring Billy Crystal and the Haddigan home, located in Sandy Springs, features expert reproductions of furniture featured in the late Princess Diana’s family home.
The tour will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets went on sale last Friday. They are available at Cutie Pies Children’s Boutique, Nancy’s Boutique, Nancy’s Hallmark, Josephine’s Antiques and Fine Linens, Southern Comforts Consignments, Southern Comforts Consignments for Women and online.
“It has evolved so much,” said Doyle of the home tour. “After they [woman’s club] formed they did the first tour and it was four homes in the immediate neighborhood of the founding members. And over the years it’s evolved into the tour that it is today.”
On picking the homes for the tour, Doyle said they find out information usually by word of mouth through club members, homeowners who have formerly been featured on the tour and interior decorators.
“The previous homeowners understand that it’s not just a gorgeous house that we’re looking for, of course we’re looking for that,” said Doyle. “But there are issues with traffic flow in the neighborhood, parking possibilities in the neighborhood, and actual logistics in the house as far as traffic in the house.”
In the spring, the selection committee of the club tours the suggested homes to narrow them down. On the day of the tour, all 130 members of the club participate, most by being docents in each room of the homes, sharing some history and tips left by the homeowners on index cards. Doyle said it’s very often that the actual homeowners themselves are out of the house visiting the other homes on the tour.
Many of the visitors on the tour are there to glean decorating tips for their own homes, and the most frequently asked question Doyle said they receive is about the paint colors in the homes.
Each year the club prints 1,000 tickets, and Doyle said they always sell out.
“It’s an opportunity to get to see your neighbors because everybody who can comes on this tour,” she said.
