But no need to worry, StageWorks Theatre Company is pleased to bring you “Completely Hollywood (unabridged)” this weekend at the Clarence Brown Conference Center to get you up to speed.
“Completely Hollywood” is a wild ride through Tinsel Town via three actors who will thrill the audience with a condensed version of the 186 best films over the past 100 years. Everything from “2001: A Space Odyssey” to “Wonder Woman” will be highlighted.
Will Brooks, who directed the company’s “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (unabridged)” returns as director.
“This is the third show he has directed for StageWorks,” said Leslie McCrary with StageWorks. “He has also taken the stage in three productions.”
The show is geared to adults and may contain some adult language and Brooks said the script was written by the same collaborators for “Shakespeare (unabridged).”
“ The script is by the same folks that wrote ‘Shakespeare (abridged)’ but the nice thing about these scripts is that the playwrights leave lots of room for updates and additions and even encourage each production to make the show their own,” said Brooks.
The show is two acts and clocks in at around 90 minutes Brooks said.
“Over the course of the play we will cover the greatest 186 works of cinema of all-time, either in parodies of specific films or in a brief mention of a famous line like, ‘I’m king of the world!’ or ‘You complete me,’” Brooks said. “We also will riff on the movie studios’ tendency to favor tried-and-true plotting and casting recipes.”
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission only.
Brooks said the audience can expect a great time.
“The audience should come in expecting to have their sides hurting from laughter,” Brooks said. “It’s a fast paced show that covers everything Hollywood has to offer. From silent films to The Avengers, nothing in Tinseltown is safe from this show.”
