Jordan Lee Meachum, a freshman at Woodward Academy in College Park, has been busy creating a standard of excellence.

In the three years she has attended the school, she has achieved no small feat — earning the Gold Eagle three years in a row.

“The first year I was at Woodward, I earned all A’s,” she said. “At the end of the school year, they have an honors banquet. They award both the gold and silver eagle.”

The eagle awards are given to students who achieve a 3.2 grade point average or higher in a given school year.

Meachum was also awarded the Outstanding Social Studies student award.

Coincidently, her favorite subject is social studies.

“It is very important to know about the past,” she said. “I also think it is important that history doesn’t repeat itself and we don’t make the same mistakes.”

To encourage herself to keep achieving, Meachum has instilled the importance of giving her all in her academic efforts.

“My goal is really to try my best in everything I do and to work hard and always give 110 percent,” she said. “If you give it your all, you can achieve anything.”

Since Meachum is in the early stages of her high school career, she has hopes of becoming more active with extracurriculars.

She would like to join the Japanese club, green team — a group that focuses on eco-friendly awareness — and the lacrosse team.

For her future beyond Woodward, Meachum aspires to attend a college in New York and study to become a broadcast journalist.
