The West Atlanta / Douglas Choral Society has announced that Babbie Mason will be one of the chorale’s featured guest artists for the 2012-2013 concert season.

Mason, an award-winning singer, songwriter, teacher and TV talk show host, will perform at the WADCS Family Christmas Concert on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Douglas County High School Performing Arts Hall.

“We are very excited and honored to secure and feature for her first year with us, Babbie Mason, in our 26th concert season series,” said Artistic Director / Conductor Waverly Rainey on behalf of the Board. “Mrs. Mason is an internationally renowned musician and performer with a rich and prestigious history. Likewise, a special aspect of this lady is her kind and graceful approach to sharing her God given gifts and talents with artists like WADCS as we serve and minister to our Douglas County / West Georgia community. Our board and chorale look forward to performing with Mrs. Mason in our ‘Family Christmas Concert’ for a variety of reasons, including our efforts to establish a new and large performing arts hall and center for Douglas County.”

She has been honored with 11 nominations for the coveted Dove Award, nominationed for the impressive Stellar and Grammy Awards, is the recipient of two Dove Awards and two ASCAP Awards for her singing and songwriting abilities, including nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

In 2010, Mason was recognized for her contributions in gospel music by being inducted into the Christian Music Hall Of Fame.

Her 20th recording, “Everything,” contains songs that encourage and enhance the corporate and private worship experiences. The majority of the songs come from Babbie’s own pen, but she teams up with a few of her favorite co-writers, including her son, Chaz, who has developed a budding singing and songwriting career of his own.

Mason’s recordings have produced eight top 10 radio singles and numerous No. 1 hits on the contemporary, inspirational and gospel music radio charts. Her compositions can be found in the church hymnal and titles such as “All Rise”, “With All My Heart”, “Each One Reach One”, “Stop By The Church”, “Standing In the Gap” and “Trust His Heart”, are all considered modern church classics. Babbie and Charles, her husband of 27 years, reside on a farm in rural Georgia, where she enjoys fishing, interior design and entertaining family and friends.

The WADCS concert repertoire generally includes a variety of audience favorites consisting of sacred / secular seasonal choral and instrumental repertoire (Classical, contemporary, Broadway musical, and spiritual choral anthems to solos, etc.).

The WADCS first official rehearsal is Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The projected performances include the “Family Christmas Concert” on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. and the Easter / Spring Concert on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Douglas County High School Performing Arts Hall.
