The Cottage Grove, Ore.-based association hands out its honors twice a year, in the winter and summer.
In June Kornblit was named the finalist for the 2012 Georgia Author of the Year Award for first fiction in a ceremony sponsored by the Georgia Writers Association and held at Kennesaw State University. For each category, there was one winner and one finalist.
“Shelter from the Texas Heat” also is a recommended selection for September by a national group, Kathy L. Patrick’s Pulpwood Queens Book Club, with more than 500 chapters across the country. Kornblit will appear at the Book Festival of the Marcus Jewish Community Center in Dunwoody Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
