“The impressive thing about Erica is her hunger and intensity,” Riverdale volleyball coach Brandy Jones said. “She will never give up.”
“She is always pushing and that’s a good thing,” Jones said. “I can coach somebody who always wants it. She has that push and drive, and that is the one thing I admire about her as a player.”
The passion which the senior outside hitter Burnham plays with has spread to the rest of the team, which is currently 10-1 overall and winners of 10 straight games.
“This year we have a team that wants to win,” Burnham said. “We are ready and want to compete every night. We haven’t had that mindset in a long time.”
Last season, Riverdale finished 7-15 overall and 2-10 in area 4N-AAAA.
“This is the best season volleyball has had in a while,” Jones said. “I think we have a good chance to provide some good competition for the rest of the county as well as the area.”
Off the court, Burnham owns a 3.5 GPA, and wants to play volleyball in college while majoring in psychology.
"I feel like I'm good with people and helping them with their problems," said Burnham, who wants to be a family and marriage therapist. "I just really like that."
Burnham also plays basketball and competes in the 110 hurdles, triple jump and high jump in track and field.
