While Sept. 4 for many was just another day back to the work routine after a long holiday weekend, for one business in Fairburn it signaled a new beginning.

Cracker Barrel, a nationwide eatery known for its southern food and atmosphere, opened its 44th Georgia location in Fairburn.

Jeanne Ludington, a spokesperson for the company, said the city was picked for a combination of reasons.

“Several factors went into our decision-making process — pricing, site visibility access to and from a site and proximity to our other existing locations,” she said. “When you put all those factors together, that is why we are opening in Fairburn.”

Fairburn Mayor Mario Avery said the company’s selection of the city proves there is value within the Highway 74 retail corridor.

“The opening of this Cracker Barrel store indicates our Highway 74 retail corridor is the prime location of choice for forward thinking national restaurant chains and others seeking profitable locations in these challenging economic times,” he said.

Avery said ventures like Cracker Barrel are not the only upcoming economic development phases on the horizon.

More recently, QuikTrip opened a location in Fairburn. Strawn Brewing Company, a microbrewery, Irish Bred Pub Bar and Grill downtown and a central gathering area, complete with a stage for concerts and special events, are slated to open within the next year.

“It’s imperative that our residents are granted a place within our city to bring their families for dining while investing in their own infrastructure they help build,” Avery said. “It’s very important to me that our residents see physical results as a result of their government at work.”

Avery said many of the new restaurant employees are Fairburn residents.

“Cracker Barrel hired 200 people for the new store in Fairburn,” Avery said. “Most of those new employees are Fairburn residents or live within a two-miles radius per the general manager. I am so proud to say that corporate management honored the city’s request for jobs.”

Cracker Barrel is at 7995 Senoia Road.
