For most players across the state, five touchdowns would comprise a strong season or an all-state caliber month.

For Milton running back Peyton Barber, it all came in a night’s work against Centennial.

The senior tailback scored from 2, 3, 4, 34 and 65 yards out in a 52-24 rout of the Knights, totaling 203 yards on 23 carries last Friday night.

It was the second time in three games that Barber eclipsed the 200-yard plateau — doing so first in a season opening win against Alpharetta with 225 yards on 23 carries. Through three games the senior has 476 yards and six touchdowns on 64 carries.

His success, according to Milton head coach Howie DeCristofaro, comes from a unique combination of elite speed and game-breaking agility; all packaged around a 5-foot-11, 220-pound frame.

“That is a very, very rare combination to have in a player,” said the second-year Milton head coach. “There are a lot of guys in the state that are fast, but not many have the size that he does too.”

“He’s a tough kid too and a hard-worker, really just a great player for us.”

Barber verbally committed to play college football at the University of Mississippi in July. He chose the Rebels over offers from Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and many others.
