In their first meeting on the field since 2009, Cartersville defeated their rivals, the Cass Colonels, on Sept. 7. While the win was a team effort, one particular player had some good looks and put up points for the ‘Canes.

With a long history, the Canes have beaten the Colonels in almost every meeting, but this was a close game which could have gone either way.

Junior wide receiver and defensive back Mark Quattlebaum had some good hands, making a difference for his team in the close 24-20 victory.

“He played good defense for us. Had five good tackles and three pass break ups,” said head football coach Frank Barden.

Along with his “good defense,” Quattlebaum caught a pass for an 87-yard touchdown to keep the Canes on top.

Barden said Quattlebaum is a versatile player for the Canes as he plays on both offense and defense for his team.

“He’s a really talented junior that plays both sides of the ball. He’s a hard worker with good character,” Barden said.

Quattlebaum began playing for the Canes last year as a sophomore, defensive back. Over a year, he has progressed and become an athlete that Barden said will make quite a few plays for his team throughout the year.

“He’s a good player and his teammates are lucky to have him on the field,” Barden said.
