“Miaya is a consistent, strong hitter,” South Atlanta coach Rita Cruz said. “One of the best hitters I have ever seen. She is very reliable and the reason she is the fourth batter.”
Following a 16-4 win over Grady a week ago, Faniel, who hit a grand slam against the Lady Grey Knights, had a .688 batting average.
“Miaya’s hitting has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season,” Cruz said. “Her patience has gotten better with slow pitchers.”
Personally, Faniel also believes she is better directional hitter.
“I can now pick where I hit the ball,” Faniel said. “I used to just swing but now I’ve taken lessons so I know where to hit it based on how the defense is setup.”
“Her leadership skills have improved tremendously as well,” Cruz said. “She needed to understand the other players look up to her.”
Faniel has a 3.7 GPA and an interest in attending Georgia Tech, where she would like to continue playing softball while majoring in biomedical engineering.
