With the regular season coming to an end this week, local softball teams are now looking ahead to next week’s region tournaments.

The top four finishers in each region tournament will advance to the state tournament, which begins with first-round games Oct. 10 and 11.

Riverwood and North Springs will play in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament Monday through Oct. 5 at Al Bishop Park in Marietta.

The Lady Raiders were tied for fifth place with Forsyth Central at the end of last week with a 7-12 overall record and 4-4 region mark, while North Springs (6-13, 1-7) was tied for eighth with Cambridge.

Riverwood coach Jackie Carson is looking for her team to build some momentum going into the 7-AAAAA tournament.

“We have other region games left to play and I am confident that we will come to play and get a few more wins,” Carson said last week. “If we can keep focused the entire game, I am confident that the girls will be placed in a good spot for the region playoffs.”

North Atlanta will be participating in the Region 6-AAAAA tournament Tuesday through Oct. 5 at the Southeast Sports Complex in Lithonia.

The Lady Warriors (5-13, 4-4) are among a number of teams battling for fifth place in 6AAAAA, along with Tucker, Stephenson and Southwest DeKalb.

Westminster and Lovett are already assured of state tournament berths since they play in the four-team Region 6-AA.

Lovett is hosting the 6-AA tournament, which will be held Monday through Oct. 3.

Westminster (9-9, 2-2) was tied for second place with Wesleyan going into the week, while Lovett (5-12, 0-4) was in last.

Pace will be joined by Holy Innocents’, Galloway and Mt. Vernon in the Region 5-A tournament Oct. 3 through 6 at Strong Rock Christian in Locust Grove.

The Lady Knights (13-7, 7-1) were in second place going into the week, right behind 5-A leader Eagle’s Landing Christian — which led the way at 6-0 in region play.

Pace has been on a roll heading down the stretch with 10 wins in its last 11 games going into the week — including a 2-0 win over Landmark Christian in its region finale last Thursday.

“We played in the Adairsville tournament [two weeks ago] and went 4-1 and we’ve won [10 out of our last 11], so we’re playing real good ball,” Pace coach Kris Palmerton said.

Mt. Vernon (7-8, 3-2) and Holy Innocents’ (4-15, 3-3) are both in the middle of the 5-A standings as they battle for the fourth spot in the region.

Marist is hosting the Region 6AAAA tournament next week. The Lady War Eagles were tied for first place with Chamblee in subregion A going into the week.

St. Pius X, Woodward and Blessed Trinity are playing in the 6-AAA tournament.

Blessed Trinity and Woodward are battling for the No. 1 spot in the region at the beginning of the week, while St. Pius X was in fourth place.

St. Francis, Whitefield, Fellowship Christian and Mount Pisgah Christian will play in the Region 6-A tournament.
