Quinnette Cousin searched high and low for a family friendly event venue on the southside but to no avail.

She decided instead to create her own — The Blú Bisque — which sits on historic Main Street in downtown College Park.

Her vision was to create a unique space with a variety of activities for each member of the family to enjoy with a consignment shop and a game room, as well as pottery and canvas painting all within the same space.

“I have spent the last 14 years looking at all the development in south Fulton and none of it is related to activities and family. I decided to take the bull by the horn after doing research and talking to other businesses,” she said.

The retail component, which Cousin considers to be an upscale consignment shop, was in direct response to complaints from her friends.

“So many of my friends have clothes they have taken really good care of but hold onto them because they don’t know who to give them to,” she said.

Pottery and canvas painting, on the other hand, were incorporated simply because, according to Cousin, there is a lack of those types of facilities in the area.

“So many times you have different aged children or children of different genders,” she said. “I wanted to create a space where everyone could find something for themselves so families could spend more time together.”

At Blú Bisque, patrons can saunter into the airy loft-like establishment and paint on a canvas or pottery at any time during business hours — no appointment required — and also bring food and drink to enjoy while they paint. Prices for the paintable pottery pieces range from $8 to $47. Painting a canvas is a flat fee of $20.

The business also acts as an event venue with an outdoor patio on the first floor and additional event space in a downstairs area. A gaming room is downstairs with Xbox, Wii and Playstation 3 consoles.

Cousin said hosting events has been popular at the location and so far she has hosted bridal, birthday and gaming parties, as well as fundraisers.

The Blú Bisque is at 3397 Main St. in College Park.

Hours of operation are 12:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, 12:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
