The airport will soon have sewer service as part of a city of Dallas project.

Paulding Northwest Airport Executive Director Blake Swafford said the airport should have sewer availability by the first half of 2013, and Dallas Mayor Boyd Austin said construction on the sewer project will begin in November.

In addition, the Oct. 20 Salute America air show at the airport has gained more sponsors and aircraft.

RBM of Atlanta, Rodney’s Barbecue, Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church and Crist Roofing are a few new sponsors.

Air show organizer Kerry Tidmore said the show gained an F/A-18 Hornet for display, as well as for a possible flyover at the show.

The Hornet is a fighter jet.

Tidmore said there will also be a static Gulfstream G3 for viewing, which is a business jet; and a demonstration by an Extra 300, an aerobatic monoplane.

Tidmore said the air show committee’s target number of attendees is 12,000.

There will be about 35 vendors, including Rodney’s Barbecue and Chick-fil-A.

Tidmore said he hoped the air show would help Paulding County become recognized as a leader in the aviation industry and inspire young people to get into aviation.

“We are obligated to inspire our youth,” Tidmore said.

Tidmore, the air show co-director, is also helping implement a foreign object debris, or FOD, program at the airport.

The implementation period is one to one and a half years, according to Tidmore, and consists of two phases.

“I appreciate Kerry taking the time and energy to get us here,” Swafford said. “If a rare and expensive airplane was here today, and he [the pilot] picks up a piece of FOD, I can guarantee that’s the last time he’ll visit this airport.”

Foreign object debris can be harmful not only to the outside of an aircraft, but the engine as well.

During a separate meeting of the Paulding County Industrial Building Authority, Swafford reported that two production companies were close to booking Atlanta Film Studios in Hiram. “We’ve had a steady stream of prospects coming in visiting the facility,” Swafford said.

Swafford said the studios were a finalist for the production of “Scary Movie 5,” but the production company ended up choosing a free facility in Clayton County.

Swafford said the movie will be filmed in an abandoned shopping center.

“They’ll only be filming there for three weeks anyway, so it wasn’t a huge loss for us,” he said.
