The city of Locust Grove’s Main Street Inc. will host its annual Family Night on Oct. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.

To be held in the downtown historic district, Family Night was started roughly five years ago to promote family togetherness and local businesses.

For Sherry Moon, chairwoman of Main Street, Inc. and owner of Zebra House, the aspect of promoting local businesses hits home.

“As a business owner, [Family Night] gets people out and seeing that there is a downtown Locust Grove,” she said. “It is also an evening of fun that is basically free.”

No admission will be charged for residents that attend the event, nor will there be a fee for parking.

A roster of activities will be offered that evening including pumpkin painting for kids, a disc jockey playing music and karaoke.

To encourage residents to mingle and browse the numerous shops downtown, door prizes will be given away.

“[Residents] will get a pre-printed card and will have to go around to all of the stores and get the card initialed,” said Moon. “Once all the boxes have been initialed, it must be placed in the slot to be drawn.”

The Scarecrow Village, which will be running co-currently with the evening, will also be on display for residents to see.

Scarecrow Village, an annual happening in Locust Grove, features decorated scarecrows from businesses and residents around the community.

Typically, the minimum amount decorated is 25.

Moon said to date the most unique one she has seen was decorated by Authentic Pine Floors.

“They had a pirate walking the plank,” she said. “Like, there was a piece of wood flooring underneath his feet.”

A professional photographer will be on hand for those who would like their photos taken.

Free parking is contained within a lot off Cleveland Street.
