Jaquan Johnson has only played 12 high school football games since joining the Druid Hills football team last year.
However, Johnson hasn’t wasted any time in making an impact for the Red Devils.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior has already made his mark as a big-time playmaker for Druid Hills, catching five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown as a wide receiver and throwing for 131 yards and a score as a quarterback so far this season.
In Druid Hills’ 27-6 win over Therrell two weeks ago, Johnson had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while rushing for 85 yards on 12 carries and catching three passes for 83 yards and another score.
He also had a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Red Devils’ 28-21 loss to Chamblee.
Having never played a single down of football before joining the team as a junior in 2011, Johnson scored the first time he ever touched the football — scoring on an 86-yard kickoff return in the Red Devils’ second game of the ’11 season against Greater Atlanta Christian.
Johnson has proved especially explosive on kickoff returns, scoring six times in the 12 games he has played over the last two years.
“He is a very special player,” Druid Hills coach Kip Hall said. “He’s a quarterback, wide receiver and kickoff returner — he can do it all. He got such a late start playing football, but he can definitely play on the college level.”
