“The line was blocking good, the fullback and receivers were too,” said White, who fractured his foot before the season.
“It was expected for him to do that and he understood his expectations,” Banneker football coach Tony Slaton said. “He did what he was supposed to do to help the team.”
White had TD runs of 32, two and five yards for his first three scores of the season.
“He’s gotten a lot better with his vision and his quickness,” Slaton said.
Outside of just securing handoffs and hoping to earn positive yardage, White consistently communicates with his teammates what to expect from the opposing defense.
“Jalen has taken on that leadership role as far as recognizing defenses, helping to call out blocking schemes for the lineman and to help the quarterback,” Slaton said.
Off the field, White has a 3.2 grade-point average and an interest in marketing because his father teaches the subject at Hillgrove. White would like to be a high school coach.
