Gill said his dealership has had a good year in business. He said he knew if he didn’t take the opportunity to buy the land now, it would slip away from him forever.
According to the National Automobile Dealership Association, sales increased nationally by 1.2 million vehicles from 2010 to 2011.
“Four years ago, this land was priced so high, I couldn’t touch one acre,” Gill said.
“I knew as the economy got better, my chances of ever owning this property would dissolve, so I called the broker and purchased the property,” he said.
The first phase of construction on the new property includes paving 1.5 acres to display the newest cars.
“We’re expecting a 30 to 35 percent bump in sales as a result of this new lot,” Gill said.
If sales increase as much as Gill believes they will, he said he will likely build an additional 8,000-square-foot showroom and sales center on the newly acquired property in the summer of 2013.
The current showroom would serve as an accessory showroom and customer waiting lounge, he said.
The main reason Gill said he acquired the property was for visibility.
“The acquisition of this corner and visibility directly on U.S. 120 makes all the sense in the world,” he said.
“To this day, we still have customers coming into the dealership stating that they had no idea there was a Chrysler franchise in Paulding County. This still blows my mind with all the dollars I have spent over the last 19 years promoting the dealership,” he said.
Gill said he also has a 19,000-square-foot body shop that most residents likely were unfamiliar.
“This will open up that body shop, too,” he said.
Gill said he ordered a turntable and ramps for display of vehicles.
“You’ll be able to see those Jeeps on the hill all the way from Wal-Mart now,” said Gill, in reference to the store near the Cobb line.
The new property will be landscaped and sodded all the way around.
“All of this is exciting and launches our growth for the next 20 years,” Gill said.
