For four years Madison Claytor has been a force in the starting lineup for Mount Pisgah, producing at the plate, and behind it, as the team’s starting catcher.

As a senior, things have been no different.

Claytor is hitting .333 for the playoff-bound Patriots’ and doing even better work behind the plate — sporting a .951 fielding percentage and 61 percent caught-stealing rate while catching every inning of the Lady Patriots’ 28 games.

“In general, a good catcher is a good blocker, frames well, has a commanding arm behind the plate and you like your catcher to have a good bat as well,” said Mount Pisgah softball coach Haley Brooks.

“Madison fulfills all these needs for us. She is very knowledgeable behind the plate, commands respect from runners and is excellent at picking off those who choose to steal.”

At the plate she complements her .333 average with a robust .564 slugging percentage, two homeruns and 20 runs-batted in this season.

“She has a very good eye and is aggressive when she gets up in the count,” said the Patriots coach of her star senior that is being recruited by Ohio, Carson-Newman, Tusculum and others.

“She just brings so much leadership to the team through her knowledge of the game, both on offense and defense, and a calm sense of determination and focus to all situations that we face.”
