Dunwoody and Lakeside will play in the Class AAAAA tournament, while Marist, Redan and Chamblee in AAAA and St. Pius X and Decatur in AAA are the other DeKalb postseason representatives.
The top four finishers in each region tournaments advance to the state playoffs, which begins with first-round best-of-three series. The first two games will be played today, with a third game to be contested, if necessary, on Thursday.
Dunwoody (20-8) is headed to the Class AAAAA playoffs after winning the Region 6AAAAA tournament last week.
The Lady Wildcats, who defeated Miller Grove in the 6AAAAA tournament finals, will begin their quest for the state title on Wednesday as they host Central Forsyth, the No. 4-seed from Region 7AAAAA, in a first-round matchup.
Lakeside (19-9) enters the state tournament as the No. 3 seed from 6AAAAA and the Lady Vikings will go on the road to face Creekview, the second seed from 7AAAAA.
Marist (20-9) is flying high coming into the state playoffs after winning the 6AAAA championship, beating Redan 13-0 in the title game last Friday and outscoring their opponents 38-0 in the three games they played.
The Lady War Eagles, as the top seed from 6AAAA, will host Cedartown, the fourth seed from 7AAAA, in their first-round series.
“We played well in the region tournament, but we are aware that the competition from Region 7AAAAA, namely Cedartown, will be a challenge,” Marist coach Mike Trapani said. “We have played a very strong non-region schedule this year to hopefully prepare ourselves for the state playoffs.”
For Trapani, simply doing the things Marist has done all year is the key to success for the Lady War Eagles in the state tournament.
“We need to continue to do the little things — don’t walk batters, make all of the routine defensive plays and get clutch hits when the opportunity presents itself,” Trapani said. “These are the ingredients to advancing in the playoffs.”
Redan, as the runner-up in 6AAAA, hosts Dalton, the No. 3 seed from 7AAA, in the AAAA first round
Chamblee will the No. 3 team from 6AAAA and will go on the road to face Heritage, Catoosa, the second seed from 7AAAA.
In Class AAA, Decatur (16-11-1) and St. Pius X (4-23) come in as the third and fourth seeds respectively from 6AAA.
Both Decatur and St. Pius X will go on the road, with the Lady Bulldogs going up against 7AAA runner-up Fannin County and the Lady Golden Lions facing the daunting task of playing Buford, the top-ranked team in the state in Class AAA as well as the 7AAA champions.
